that time of year...

During this time of year there are so many- "it's that time of the year when..." So here goes:
My class this yr is so sweet and so funny. Some years you have those classes that just mesh and this is one of those years. It's one of those yrs that I come home with some kind of story (usually funny) every day. It's at this time of yr that I start thinking back to the beginning of the yr to where they are now and I'm so amazed at how far they have come! The ones who couldn't write their name or who couldn't recognize any letters or sounds are now writing stories and reading books! No wonder the beginning of each yr seems so rough bc of how far the kiddos come throughout the year
It's also the time of the year when most of them are starting to lose teeth and I'm reading Junie B. Jones and the Toothless Wonder. They are starting to understand her humor and they laugh so hard when I'm reading it that I have to frequently stop so they can hear the next part I read.
It's that time of the year when there are starting to be teacher "freak outs" and a little anxiety thinking that they have to be on a certain level in {5 weeks} for testing and then a few weeks after that grades are due for the end of the year report card. I know how far each of them have come and in my eyes they are all shining stars and I couldn't be more proud of how hard they have worked. There are also those decisions and tough conversations with parents about which babes just aren't quite ready to move up to 1st grade yet.
It's that time of the year when a precious one hasn't come back after spring break and it just hurts my hurt and I want that sweet child to walk into the classroom tomorrow so I can give a huge hug and know that the darling is in a happy and safe environment when in my classroom.
Those feelings happen because {it's that time of the year when} I love each of these children so much. Yes, we get tired of one another at times, some days I feel like a song on repeat, and sometimes our days are just "off" but I wouldn't trade their excitement and love for their for anything. We become a big, crazy, happy, chaotic family as the school year goes on. and. i.love.it!!
Some people think teachers only teach so we can have summers and other holidays off...but I know I could not do it if it were for that. There is a love and passion that drives each day. God has placed me with each of my 21 kinders for a reason and I wouldn't trade it for anything!

from- the heart of a teacher :)
